FARC Guerrillas Returned to Colombia

newsnviews2.jpg(panamanewsbriefs.com) The four FARC guerrillas who deserted and turned themselves in to Panamanian authorities left the country yesterday, to take voluntary refuge in the Program of Humanitarian Aid to the Demobilized offered by Colombian authorities.

The Panamanian government did not object to their request, considering that the four Colombians were declared illegal immigrants, which is why it was decided to return then to Colombia.

In an official notice the government presented the identities of the three men and one woman who deserted from the FARC; Alejandro Palacio Rengifo, Edilberto Berrío Ortiz, Visney Papelito Bacorizo and Anderson Chamapurro Dojirama.

They said that "after having heard the guarantees, they have voluntarily consented to take refuge in this program." Members of the Colombian police were in Panama.

The Vice Minister of Government and Justice, Severino Mejía, said that the rebels were treated in a humanitarian manner while in the custody of the Panamanian National Police, where they were interrogated and provided with medical care.
