Panama Focuses on Elections

The election will allow Panamanians to choose occupants of the Presidency and Vice Presidency of the Republic and 621 mayoralties' representatives.


Positions include 75 mayors, 71 National Assembly legislators, 20 deputies to the Central American Parliament and 7 town city councilors, with their substitutes in all cases.


In this context the governing party is losing position in this candidature for the presidency of the country after announcing the first polls from January 2009.


For the Dichter and Neira firm opponent Ricardo Martinelli from the Democratic Change has reached a voter intention rate of 44.3 percent in contrast to 31.3 percent of Balbina Herrera from the Democratic Revolutionary Party.


Street campaigning is growing with the participation of groups defending different political tendencies.
